1) $1 Million for Black Male Teacher Initiative
The Schott Foundation for Public Education solidifies $1 million partnership with The Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation as a part of an initiative which will develop models for recruiting and retaining African American male teachers.
This first phase of the grant will be used to implement the Teachers as Leaders initiative — which will expand teacher and public policy leadership opportunities for black males entering the teaching profession.

2) Report about the USA National MenTeach Symposium in Chicago
This year’s National Symposium met in Chicago to further develop a national policy and plan for increasing the number of men teachers and to discuss the importance of men in the lives of children. Men and women attended from all over the United States and Canada. There was long discussions about what are key issues to include in the policy statements and note takers collected these comments and discussions. By the end of the gathering, several people volunteered to help review the draft plan. Watch the MenTeach website for updates.

3) The first World Gathering about Men in Early Childhood Education (MECE) May 2008
The MECE Working Forum is an international gathering of early childhood professionals sponsored by the WF Foundation, MenTeach, Hawaii AEYC and other groups. Open to all interested early childhood professionals from around the world, WF MECE 2008 creates a global meeting place for delegates to reflect on the value of gender balance in early childhood education (ECE), the benefits and barriers to men’s full participation, and identification of actions to promote this important issue worldwide. Forum attendees share ideas, perspectives, and stories over the course of four days of intensive networking, sessions, discussion groups, and informal gatherings.
